Frequent Questions Database Restore Procedure and Mirroring V1.1

Product Description

This document describes the Database & Transaction log Backup and Restore Procedure and Database Mirroring Procedure on a system that is configured with a redundant server configuration with data mirroring enabled, including a witness server that monitors the redundant configuration.

The reason of sharing this procedure is that multiple customers till date have several old legacy Microsoft SQL Server versions in their premises with this feature and when an update is required, the database in the mirrored configuration should be moved towards the upgraded Microsoft SQL Server version and reconfigured with the data base mirroring.

There are several ways to upgrade from an old legacy Microsoft SQL Server version but the best-case scenario to keep the configuration safe, is to install a new Microsoft SQL Server version on new redundant servers and follow this migration procedure while the older system is running in parallel.
